Blackwork, Whitework….traditional in form…yet are they still relevant to our current art lives now? I questioned myself decades ago, as a virgin student, new to the tactile and loving all mess related methods. Could I ever pull off something this neat? I will wager that if I could, at age seventeen master this form of embroidery, then so can you.
Again you may ask - why? Is it not more historical than contemporary? What would I use it for? Note the words within the title modern twist - this is no title, full of wallhangings. Whitework on felt, bags….
Learn four of the most recognised types of whitework and move on to adapt them to new settings, even the wearable - designed to fit in with the now.
Oh and in case you wonder what I produced myself from my trepidation of a beginning…..cakes is the answer, all sitting happily in a nearly perfect counted row.
