I have been there and I am very much aware many of you will have felt the same - where do I start? How can I begin to be inspired? What will move me to create? Somethings are better left unsaid. In adult life, we lack the freedom to ask our inner wonderings, as we belief in child like and maturity statuses. We do not ‘go there’ as it were, for fear of sounding small, a fraction of who we should be as humans. Bergmann has hit a market for many, this companion to the artist, that yes we can call ourselves (it is our right) gives us a mash up of what comes across as a publication as both a self help book and an artistic creative one.
I loved how Bergmann ‘perscribes’ remedies for our ongoing practice. One of my favorites is found on page 42 of this publication, where we are advised to ‘Act Like A Child’. Be curious, act for our pleasure, do not voice inside that this is not deserved! Would a child do that to themselves? There will always be one, however in the grand scheme of things, this principle will work.
Another personal favourite of my own is the ‘How To Start’ section, I will reveal to you that I often fail to start, by simply thinking that the idea I explore has to be perfect, valued, appropriate…..I tell you…turn to page 27 - read the paragragraph ‘5. DISTRACTIONS’.
So, step over your own lack of self worth, leave it on the doorstep and turn all those negative thoughts into ‘can do’, ‘will do’ ‘start now’ ones.
