Passementerie: Handcrafting Contemporary Trimmings, Fringes, Tassels, and More

I cut my teeth as an early artist, working my way through all sorts of embroidery techniques. I remember the sessions at college, where we learned fringing, tassel making….the works - all directly from the tutor herself. I do not remember any “tassel, handwoven adornments” bible. Yes, if it is handwoven, traditional….taken into the contemporary…beautiful adornments you wish to create…..this is unique - there has been nothing like it ever, so its an exciting title to own.

Who will this book please? I see it being suited to Interior designers, Fashion houses as well as Textile artists. It features suggestions for use and projects which would be ideal home wear. The one key quality which is required is to love the beautiful, to appreciate colour and texture. The book features eleven projects which are all really well visually illustrated with numbered steps.

They cover everything from (imagine this!) a cuff design for a jacket….(think of how much this would cost in a store to purchase), to curtain tie-backs and lampshade finishings. Its all such a feast for the eyes…like a market in India…food for those appreciative of cheer and luxe. If you partake in weaving these projects for yourself (because that is what you will have to learn), you will be rewarded with an Turkish delight full of joy - inner satisfaction too.

Oh and do not worry - all is explained by Ashdown herself.
