As a child, I learned how to make paper flowers with my mother. Simple twists, in crepe paper (hard to come by back then for some reason) and those bendy sticks with wire in them - the name lost to the age. It was enjoyable, but not furthered, developed into an artisan skill. I always thought it a method of art for children, not adults.
How wrong. I believe, that since the pandemic time period, so many of us are more garden gander bound than club trotters. A rise in the Hobbycraft brigade - all on a proclaimed voyage to keep us sane. We craft our way to calm and yes, the garden can come into it.
So hello to a new skill I didn’t know I needed in my life. I have a long burning love of foliage and the brights, the petals…now I can able to freeze my flowers in time.
Let me explain a little about the book - it has been written by two sisters who own the business titled Almeja Space. The title author on the front page confused me. That is why I am explaining this detail in the first instance.
There are fifteen flower projects, before that we are given guidance on colour, shape, materials and tools.
What did I particularly like about this title ? I enjoyed the subject itself - I review so many of the same, the beautiful but similar stitch guides. At the later end of this book, leading narratives to wards what the flowers can be used for is transcribed. Imagine a dinner party, with these as table heroes. The illustration on page 197 is a little show home for the everyday reader and home maker - but hey if you have a spare bathroom and sink where water and paper go together…..why not? Just don’t get them wet.
All the templates are provided for every one of the projects - once you have finished them all, maybe you can look for inspiration in your own garden - what is growing? could you develop a template for some of them?
The book in hard copy form is very pleasing - stylish and attractive. Its hard cover, has just over two hundred pages and the colourisation of it is a juxtaposition of pastel and the bold.
